So even you have a 750 watt motor because of your weak controller you will get only 576 watt power from your motor.Īlso you controller should be strong enough to safely deliver those current. To give you an example if an e-bike has 750 watt power e-bike motor (nominal) and it uses a 48V controller with peak current of 12 amp, then this motor can deliver only 48Vx12 = 576 Watt power. Most e-bikes I see are designed wrongly or they use under-rated controllers as most of the first time e-bike buyers only check motor power. If your controller is able to deliver higher juice then your e-bike motor can deliver more power (of course limited to it’s capacity). Motor needs juice like your car engine needs gas. A powerful motor can reach almost 100% of the top rpm while a weak motor may reach only 30% of top rpm under load. So if your motor is weak, then it won’t let motor to reach their top rpm. Direct drive hub motors don’t have any internal gears and geared hub motors have only single gear ratio.Īnd these motors mechanically designed for either high speed or high torque. There are two types of hub motors Direct Drive and Geared Hub Motors. And when you need fast speed it changes gear internally and lowers torque which gives you faster speed. So when need high torque it changes gear and lower the speed so you will have enough torque to climb. Mid-drive motor can go fast and provide high torque as they have multiple gear ratios. Before getting into further details I need to explain some basics here. The reason we conduct such test is as market is full of false claimed electric bikes and motors and sorry to say there isn’t any exception to it. ![]()
